Labor Doula and Childbirth Educator, BIRTHING FROM WITHIN® Mentor

brown099I grew up hearing the birth stories of my mom and grandmother and always perceived birth as a very natural process. My mom had a cesarean birth followed by two natural VBACs (vaginal birth after cesarean).  I was always inspired by her stories and knew I would also one day have natural births.  It wasn’t until my husband and I were preparing for the birth of our first son that I realized how rare a VBAC over 30 years ago was, and still remains today. Additionally, I discovered how little evidence-based knowledge concerning childbirth and women’s bodies is commonly discussed in our society. The perception of childbirth as seen on the big screen is the truth so many women accept without question. As I sought and gained the education I believe each woman should receive in preparation for pregnancy and childbirth, so did I discover my calling to become an advocate of change that will allow women the opportunity to re-examine our beliefs concerning the rights we possess. My wish is to support and educate women and their families as they prepare to birth in the way they believe is best for themselves and their babies.

I began my journey as a childbirth educator and labor doula after the birth of my son William in 2012. I am a CAPPA-trained Childbirth Educator and CAPPA-trained Labor Doula. I am also a Birthing From Within Mentor and will continue my education and training to become a Certified BFW Mentor.  I have been part of the emerge… family since its inception and purchased the company in July 2016.
