Birthing From Within Mentor/Doula awaiting certification
Birth work is a calling that makes my heart sing. It is a joyous event to watch and be of service as mom and baby work together in the dance that will create a new family. I hope to bring a sense of comfort and peace to the mom and her partner during the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. It is my belief that one of the main roles of the doula is to have her focus on the experience of those impacted by the birth. In the laboring space, midwives and OBs focus on the mom, but they are also responsible for medically managing mom and baby. When the attention in the room shifts to the fetal monitor, or the newly arrived baby, or delivering the placenta, it is the eyes of the doula that continue to meet the eyes of the mother and the partner to provide affirmation that they are seen and their experience is witnessed and considered.
My life is filled with the joyous abundance of being mother to three children and wife to the love of my life. My work as a doula is informed by my own water birth at Atlanta Medical Center, my homebirth, and my most recent birth at Dekalb Medical Center. My first birth was quiet and peaceful. During my second birth, I screamed loud and intensely for hours. My most recent birth was a mixture of both. It is truly my joy to pass a cool lavender-scented washcloth across a quietly laboring mother’s forehead and to honor the powerful energy of a mother as she surprises herself and others with the strength of her vocalizations.
